Secret Bay

Secret bay is the melodious name of Gilimanuk bay. The name was given by the Bali’s diving community. The site is situated in West Bali National Park. The bay is shallow (2 km wide) and it includes 2 small islands and areas of mangrove.

The site has no rich coral growths; nevertheless, it has a few weeds and coral beds. Its visibility is 4 meters or 13 feet to 10 meters or 33 feet. Here may be a current and the water can be cold with dark sand at the bottom.

Secret bay or Gilimanuk bay is also known for its rare marine species. It has a lot of juveniles which are hard to find for the reason that they hide themselves from predators. Rare macro-photography subjects include gobies, nudibranchs, crustaceans, dragonets, seahorse, pipefish, Batavia batfish, long-spine sea urchins with cling fish and many more. The bay also acts as a catch tank for many larval fish.

What makes the Secret bay an interesting dive site is the reef lying outside the mouth of the bay which makes a channel that sweeps the water through.

The secret bay has its own uniqueness and what makes its edge from other Bali dive sites is the muck diving or diving with a mud bottom. The water is shallow and has no water movement.

The night diving in this site is also a must try experience. There you can encounter seeing cephalopods, crustaceans and other rare creatures.
